The light from the ring gleamed and almost blinded her. She stared at him and she looked at him for any sign of confusion and insincerity, all she saw was a hollow blankness and calmness. She always wanted to feel the butterflies in her belly, it was the best place for it to be. But today the butterflies were in her head creating a buzzing sound that left her dizzy with a headache. She leaned towards the wall for support. At first she had been excited now the excitement was wearing off and the harshness of reality was setting in.
"Temi.." she heard her name.
She knew she loved him. She looked at the huge rock in his hands and she she knew this was a test of how much. The camera lights caused tears to find their way down her cheeks.
"Awwww, say yes already" she heard her best friend toke yell from the crowd.
What would she say? She wasn't sure of how much she felt, she wasn't sure if she loved him enough for eternity. She wasn't sure if she loved him enough for the fights and Arguments.
She knew what she wanted. what she wanted was the little blissful life in a cottage surrounded with flowers.
She wanted the smiles without the tears, the conversations and whispering of sweet nothings without the arguments. The little adorable toddler without the 9months anguish and body pain. She wanted the love without the gloomy toll the oblivious harshness of reality will steal from them, she wanted the love without the goodbyes. She wanted the commitment without having the 10am appointment with the therapist and finally the meetings with his lawyers.
She wanted the intense passion and the spontaneity of having their sweaty body inside each other whenever they wanted without wondering who was hearing or watching. She wanted the candle light dinner and bubble baths without the apron , hairnets and weakness. She wanted so much and this ring was going to take it away. Her heart leaped in fear.
"Marry me Temi, be my wife" he said again.
She looked into the eyes of the man she could never stop loving. Her love for him was death less, it would with stand all storm. When she had managed to convince her self enough.
"Yes, I will marry you "
She thrust out her left hand and her middle finger twitched nervously as he put the ring on it. She stared at the ring, amidst the cheers and claps. The ring shone and the pink diamonds dancing in the dark teasing her and serving as a constant reminder of all she wasn't ready for.
