Don't miss out on the romanic comedy latest episode I just Got Married episode 10
I don't want to talk about the mosque..I know nothing about it. I am a Christian and I can categorically tell you that the church has been aiding corruption in Nigeria for decades now. The Nigerian church has made me so angry that I find it so hard going to church except when I feel the urge to feel the presence of my Maker since I'm a human with a soul. We need to worship our Maker to fill up our spirit beings.
Typically, walking on the streets across Christian dominated areas in Nigeria on a Sunday morning, your ear drum may blow up! This is due to the endless and annoying noises coming from 'pastors'. The most annoying thing is how churches are established in Nigeria. You can easily find 15 churches within few miles all situated in one area, preaching and doing almost same thing with members less than 15! Worst part of it is that some of them may spend between 10 to 20 minutes condemning the other neighbouring churches! I witnessed this few years ago.
I always ask my self what is the need of churches when they have failed? The religious system in Nigeria has made it look like God no longer answer prayers! You can easily hear pastors shouting and telling members to say 'I can not be poor, I can not be poor' but they cant tell them how not to be poor.
You hardly hear pastors preach about the beauty of integrity and sincerity (a virtue that is lacking in the society which has aided corruption). How many pastors have been able to attack politicians who are the major obstacle to economic growth in the country? How often do pastors preach about love and religious tolerance? They prefer to preach messages that make Christians to see other religions as condemned religions. What has the church done to promote ethnic tolerance? A major natural disaster in the country. It will surprise you to know that some pastors find it so hard to mingle with other ethnic groups in this part of the world and are consciously and unconsciously bias while handling issues that concern other ethnic groups in the country.
Pastors know fully well how leadership has broken down this country but they have most of these leaders coming to their churches and they occupy front seats! The church has become a place for motivational speakers: they come and preach to you to sow seed, pay tithe and become prosperous but how? Greedy politicians who are criminals come to churches, they get front seats and some of them will be given micro phone to preach and the pastor know fully well that these same leader has not constructed a quality road for his people. Next thing is for the pastor to be praying and fasting about agaisnt accidents. This is madness!!
The church has made many christians so lazy that a lot of them believe in 'magical miracle'. The church has failed to understand that when wicked people are in power, the righteous suffer. The church has failed to address the political problems, ethnic problems, tribal problems, nepotism and corruption among other things that have destroyed this country so far. And every Sunday, you see people running to churches and they go back home empty.
These same pastors go about welcoming politicians who are mostly criminals in their churches and offer them prayers and in return, these politicians give them mouth watering tithe and offerings. Poverty is on the high side and churches are still preaching prosperity. For decades, people pray for same thing with nothing to show for it. Do you know why? It's because the wicked ones are in power.
The church must brace up. If the church must continue to be part of us and determine most of the things we do, the church must brace up and face the challenges of bad leadership like never before. Pastors need to stop these boring messages of prosperity when fundamental things in the society are lacking. No matter how wealthy you think you're in Nigeria, you're suffering because you lack basic good things of life. Yes, you may have the money to finance your generator sets but you're suffering the noise and polluting the air which surely affect you. You may have the finance to travel by air but you will surely pass through the land to reach where you're going to and still make use of the substandard air ports we have here: this means that you will still battle with the ugly roads the common man battles with daily. What am I saying? The church should stop disturbing me with the noise based preachings of prosperity (when hunger wants to swallow the entire country) powered with faulty mega phones and focus on leadership virtues to see if the next generation can grow with these two important virtues: integrity and Sincerity.
